Yet another bear sighting in the neighborhood! It's always so fun to see them. This time I was on foot with Summit walking the neighborhood loop. Just to the West of the washout on the south side was a small blackbear meandering in the treeline. Summit spotted it before I did and gave it a furocious barking (luckily he was on leash). The bear shot through the woods and then climbed a tree deep in the woods. I couldn't really see the bear when it climbed the tree- I just saw the tree shaking like crazy and moving back and forth. They are so powerful! Glad the bear is so timid. Everyone that has encountered them in our neighborhood has had a similar experience- they run immediately.
Tonight I ate my fill of Salmonberries too. They are ripe and delicious (this explains the bears)- and taste like a raspberry, only a touch more sour. Anyone have any salmonberry recipes? Wonder what they'd taste like in a pie?
