35 years and counting...

Vil and I both took the day off to celebrate my 35th trip around the sun. My birthday request was to go out cougar tracking with our local cougar biologist, Brian Kertson, and see if we could find some cats. We spent the day driving around beautiful mountain roads and protected watershed listening and watching for the signs and signals that we were getting close to the big girls. They weren’t cooperating today, but we did come within about ½ mile or so of one (based on GPS collar tracking). Wildlife was at it’s PRIME up there- 4 black bear sightings today, 1 deer buck, 1 elk buck, and 3 ruffed grouse.

When we got back home.. we had an alert from our homeowner’s web site saying that one of the neighbors had seen a bear twice on his property in the last 3 days. He said they left their garbage out.. so that probably explains why he’s hanging around. Hopefully Mr. Bear gets the message that human’s aren’t fun and hits the hills to visit his Cedar River friends.

After the big day, Vil and I went to dinner at Daniels in Bellevue, where they even served us a complimentary chocolate cake for dessert! We chased all of this with a present and card opening party at home. All in all, the day was spectacular, and goes down as one of the best birthdays yet!

I was just talking about my birthday to Vil today- we are officially at the age where people send you “age” joke cards. Thankfully, I don’t have age insecurities yet (it’s probably coming though as the crows feet get deeper). I laugh at how much time has gone by between yesterday and today… but I have to say, that life is sweet, precious and full. I love being in my (it’s official…) MID-30’s… and can’t wait to see where the road turns next. A few tidbits from my heart- learned after 35 years of living…
· Be yourself and less sensitive to small stuff
(who cares if someone drops in on you and your hair is a mess, you are in your sweat pants, and your bed isn’t made… welcome them with open arms).
· Laugh often and look for humor every single day (often this is at myself)
· Life is short- do “IT” now.. (whatever “it” is to you)
· Be generous with your time, your money and your patience (I’ve seen so much generosity in my time! You really do get everything back that you give.)
· Never say never- because you really don’t know what’s around the next bend (ever thought “that would never happen to me?”… until it happens to you?)
· Be respectful of pets, children and old folks (there is nothing we need to protect and love more than those with precious innocence).

Enjoy the little video of our antics today!
