Lately, a big project at work has been finding the right person to teach a class on living and recreating in cougar country. Since there are so many cougars here in the valley- it was important to find someone who has had lots of experience with these big guys. I finally found him. His name is Brian Kertson and he is a biologist and one of the leading cougar researchers and trackers in the Northwest. I've had several conversations with him, during which he told me some amazing stories. When we get up in the morning to head into a warm office, Brian suits up to go out looking for the cats. He records where their behaviors, and tracks their habits.
It's not too surprising to hear that there are 5 cats living up here in our neighborhood. One of them had a kill on some property not far from here and fed on it for 5 days without bothering anyone. Goes to show you that people can live in harmony with them. Hearing this reconfirmed our decision to get a mean dog (dogs and cougars are natural enemies). Anyway, Brian shared some pictures with me for some visual marketing that I'm doing on his class. I thought you guys might be interested in seeing these. I can't get over how darling this kitten is!!! All of these cougar pictures are taken here in the Northwest- most of them within 20 miles of our home!
